Providing the best road facilities for our community is one of our highest priorities. The City Council recently awarded a construction contract for the Bastanchury Road Widening Project. This project includes the widening of Bastanchury Road between Casa Loma and Eureka avenues with an additional thru lane in each direction and the installation of new traffic signals at those intersections. In addition, a new sidewalk will be installed on the north side to provide continuous pedestrian connectivity, while the multipurpose trail on the south side will be reconstructed. Another feature of this project is the change in vertical curvature of the roadway to provide an improved line of sight for motorists traveling along Bastanchury Road.
To allow for construction and improvements, motorists will experience additional travel time on Bastanchury Road due to temporary traffic control measures, such as lane reductions and reduced speed limits throughout the work zone. In addition, project signage and changeable message boards will be in place to advise motorists of the approaching construction work. Construction is anticipated to start in early February and will last approximately one year.
