The City of Yorba Linda is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Tommy Lasorda, former manager of the world series winning Los Angeles Dodgers from 1976 to 1996, and a member of the baseball Hall of Fame. With his wife, Jo, the Lasorda family has long been connected to the Yorba Linda community. After the passing of their son, Thomas Lasorda Jr., they decided to build a recreation center in his memory. The Lasordas donated $500,000 raised through the Thomas Lasorda Jr. Foundation to the City of Yorba Linda to help build the Thomas Lasorda Jr. Field House, which opened in 1997. Since then, the Lasordas have continued their commitment to the community, including funding the initial and now annual Celebration of the Arts, the Senior Transportation program (T.R.A.I.L.S. bus), and investing in the ongoing maintenance of the Field House’s infrastructure. The generosity and support of the Lasorda family and the Thomas Lasorda Jr. Foundation has deeply enriched Yorba Linda, and our hearts to go out to Jo and the rest of the Lasorda family.
