The City of Yorba Linda is concerned about the State of California’s recent adoption of “Sanctuary State” laws pertaining to illegal immigration. Therefore, at the March 20, 2018, Council Meeting, the Yorba Linda City Council voted to join an amicus brief in support of the United States of America’s lawsuit against the State of California’s “Sanctuary State” immigration policies. The City has also submitted formal letters (PDF) to the Orange County Board of Supervisors and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, stating support for the amicus brief and requesting their support to join the amicus brief.
At the Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting on March 27, on a vote of 4-0, the Board approved a resolution of the Orange County Board of Supervisors to condemn state law that restricts law enforcement and endangers public safety and directed their County Counsel to intervene in the pending case United States v. California, case #18-264, on behalf of the County.
The City will continue to keep the community updated as information becomes available.
