Latest News - SCAG

The State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) recently announced that it intends to require that southern California cities plan to build an additional 1.34 million housing units by 2029 (see letter from HCD). The following article provides a more detailed explanation of how this will impact southern California: https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2019-08-30/gavin-newsom-fair-share-housing-southern-california. The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is responsible for establishing a methodology for determining what share of those 1.34 million units will be assigned to each individual jurisdiction. The City recently submitted a comment letter to SCAG on the proposed methodology: http://www.scag.ca.gov/programs/Documents/082019YorbaLinda.pdf. The public comment period ends on September 13, 2019, and comments may be submitted via email to housing@scag.ca.gov.
