Although most garages are directly connected to the home, when it comes to security, the garage is one part of the home that is often neglected by homeowners. Yorba Linda Police Services and the City of Yorba Linda encourage you to practice these garage safety tips to keep your home safe:
- When parking in the driveway or street, do not leave your garage door remote in your car, especially in plain sight.
- Do not leave your garage door open for an extended period of time. It only takes seconds for a thief to remove a valuable item from your garage when it is left unattended.
- Keep the door between your home and your garage locked. Consider installing a peephole so you can safely view the inside of your garage if you hear any suspicious activity.
- If you have windows in your garage door, consider frosting or tinting them. This can prevent potential burglars from seeing the contents of your garage and/or entry points to the home.
If you notice suspicious activity in your neighborhood, contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 714-779-7098, or the non-emergency dispatch line at 714-647-7000. For additional crime prevention information, please visit the Yorba Linda Police Services section of the City website.
