[ARCHIVED] Stay Water Safe this Memorial Day Weekend

Water Watcher Latest News

As families come together this Memorial Day weekend, the City of Yorba Linda and the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) stress the importance of water safety. As you congregate around pools this weekend, please follow the ABC’s of Water Safety, focusing on Active Adult Supervision. Make sure to assign a water watcher at all times, a person designated to watch children in the water without ANY distractions. Water watchers never leave the pool unattended, regularly scan the bottom of the pool, avoid poolside chats, and avoid texting, scrolling and talking on the phone.

Drownings occur without a sound, quickly and silently and continue to be the leading cause of accidental death among children age five and under. The majority of drowning and near drowning incidents occur in residential swimming pools and in open water sites. Save a life this weekend and volunteer to be a water watcher. For more water safety tips, visit the drowning prevention page on the City's website
