The Administration Department is seeking a student intern to work in the City Manager's Office. This is a fantastic opportunity for a current college or graduate student to gain valuable experience and firsthand knowledge of city government. The City is seeking a talented, dedicated student who is currently studying public administration, communications, marketing, public relations, or English. The ideal candidate has the desire to assist with communications, marketing, event planning, and public relations projects. The ideal candidate possesses strong writing and organizational skills, knowledge of social media tools and techniques, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
the internship opportunity
The Public Relations Intern will assist in sharing news and information with residents, employees, community partners, and the public. Using superb writing skills, creative storytelling, photography and/or videography, the Public Relations Intern will assist to generate compelling content, and share the information through the City's website, social media platforms, newsletters, mailers, flyers, public access television, and other communication vehicles. The Public Relations Intern will be exposed to and will gain experience in many different areas to allow for the most valuable overall internship experience possible.
In addition to being a great resume-builder, this internship opportunity will afford the Public Relations Intern with an inside look at the inner-workings of local government, while simultaneously learning about the various City departments and projects. The intern will also get to meet elected officials, staff, and community leaders. The intern will work directly with the City's Assistant to the City Manager and Communications Coordinator and will interact frequently with the City's Management Team, Mayor, and City Council Members.
application and selection process
1. Submit a completed City of Yorba Linda application, the required supplemental question responses, cover letter, resume, and two writing samples online by May 30, 2019.
2. All qualified applications, supplemental responses, cover letters, resumes, and work sample submissions will be competitively evaluated, and those candidates demonstrating the strongest qualifications for the internship opportunity will be invited to participate in a panel interview (or series of panel interviews), which will be scheduled for June 2019.
3. The internship is scheduled to begin in June 2019.
