On Wednesday, October 24, 2018, Mayor Gene Hernandez delivered the 2018 State of the City Address in front of an audience that filled the East Room at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. With a theme of “Creating Tomorrow Today,” the State of the City Address was delivered to attendees in a video which included updates on the City’s accomplishments, current projects, and plans for the future.
Mayor Hernandez described 2018, as “A time of collaborating, evaluating, making decisions, and tackling challenges head-on to ensure Yorba Linda’s success for generations to come.” He added, “Looking ahead to the projects we have before us, I am confident that the results of our work over the past year will serve as a lasting foundation for building a stronger and more prosperous future for Yorba Linda.”
Gaddi H. Vasquez, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for Edison International and Southern California Edison, served as the Emcee and shared anecdotes about his time working in law enforcement with Mayor Hernandez. Attendees also received a welcome from the President and CEO of the Nixon Foundation, Bill Baribault.
As part of the program, Mayor Hernandez also recognized the 2018 Citizen of the Year and 2018 Business of the Year. Bridget Blehm, a 30-year resident, was honored as Citizen of the Year for her many contributions to the community, including her work as founder of For Families of Active Military, a non-profit organization which serves our troops and military families. Business owners Michael and Amy Spillane of The Cookie Element were recognized as Business of the Year for their beloved baked goods, involvement in the community, and service to the Yorba Linda Chamber of Commerce.
