Members of the Planning Commission are appointed by the City Council for a four-year term. A member may serve up to three four-year terms.
California Government Code Section 65100 requires every city to establish local responsibilities for implementing state and local land use and zoning regulations. Chapter 2.28 of the Yorba Linda Municipal Code established the Yorba Linda Planning Commission, which consists of five residents from both the private and public sectors of the community, each of whom bring an expertise to the commission, whether it be in urban planning, architectural or landscape design, citizen concerns, business needs, or engineering feasibility.
- Review various requests and proposals, including site plan and subdivision map approvals and rezoning and annexation requests.
- Ensure that any new building, signage, right-of-way, or other proposal serves the best interest of the community at large and the zoning district in which it will be built.
- Ensure that all citizens' health, safety, and rights are considered in any proposal or dispute.
- Provide recommendations for any modifications and updates to the City’s General Plan and Zoning Code.
